Never in the history of this world has so much depended on one person. President Barack Obama carries on him a burden of the entire world, not just North America. When he came to power for his first term in 2008, it was a mandate for hope and stability. This re-election is a mandate for growth and vitality. On both these occasions, the imperative of his office has been global and true to his character, he has not belied the brief. Reams have been written and humongous amounts of airtime have been spent, but little has been done to congratulate the steadfast adherence to principles that Obama has demonstrated on any issue that he stood for; as an individual and not just for office.
The Electoral College, the popular vote and the electronic media experts and the arm chair commentators have all spoken. Wall Street spooked the very day of the results being announced. Everyone has demonstrated that they are all talking and reacting without really understanding the contours of the Transformation / Change to be expected and the role each one has to play in the future. It is this lack of preparedness that kept the many undecided voters and fixers slanting towards Romney other than the usual Republican suspects. As Obama made it clear in his acceptance speech, it is not just his job but everyone’s to assure the progress he is charting.
In our modern world enterprises are global and so are governments. North America as a country is not an exception. There is plenty of opportunity to contribute to the Transformation, Innovation and Growth despite the rhetoric on outsourcing and offshoring. There can never be any doubt that America has led the world as a wealthy nation that created opportunities and it is very evident in the pride that Obama takes and stokes in the people to orchestrate his second term.
Education, Healthcare and Infrastructure will always be government subjects despite fierce debates on capitalistic privatization. Let’s wake up to the reality that government however does not mean authority. It means service, with the emphasis on principles governed by people’s aspirations. It is clear therefore that everyone has to grow up, renew their view of the world and become contributors more than consumers. This opportunity is a defining one to build a new society based on a new relevance (read partnerships) dictated by the convergence of content, computing and communications. Let’s make a difference!
