In the recent weeks, I have had the benefit of discussing with several software development organization (Product & Services) on the subject of Business Solutions Development. While there appears a level of maturity being achieved in the Data to Information conversion, it looks like a raging battle is on to make Business Intelligence relevant. Nearly after more than five years of introduction and advancement of technologies such as Single Sign-On, Personalization and Universal User Profile (UUP) /Master Data Management (MDM), this is a surprise. We are yet to even start talking about Cognitive Intelligence.
I have begun this post starting at the data level because that is where the entire impasse in the maturity of solution engineering appears to be. Professionals and Organizations while waxing eloquently on subjects such as Enterprise Architecture, Services Orientation and Business / Services On Demand are finding it difficult to bell the Data Cat, which in turn renders all their juxtaposition on the earlier mentioned subjects a bit pompous. So for those who don’t see a revolutionary approach to business renewal, an evolutionary approach would first demand renewal of the data structure. This will in the least, enable the business enterprise to introduce new systems and agility in enterprise applications to begin with. This will also be an important step in making that third step which is conversion of Information to Intelligence relevant.
But then, all that has been said so far needs to have been accomplished a long while ago. So while catching up with the past, the future is here and now. The challenge in Business Solution Engineering is in converting Intelligence to Knowledge, Innovation and Business Transformation. This is where the current focus of Solution Engineering and its mobilization must be. If this is not the case, it is very difficult for the business enterprise to leverage technology and become an industry leader with Mind to Market (M2M) and Time to Market (T2M) advantages on a sustained basis.
Business Solutions and Business Performance must concurrently and continuously converge into a command center for business leaders to leverage the capabilities in the business enterprise to take that next leap of faith. Solutions Development organizations of Product and Services companies must form a collaborative community with their value chain to develop these capabilities and practice them which will lead to value creation across the entire value chain.
